Blogging Experience

Generally enjoy the experience of blogging. When I've been busy with other things has been difficult to have time to write, and in these cases has been less enjoyable to write. The issues in general meeting have been of considerable interest, allowing important issues to talk about current issues as well as our most personal preferences on a particular topic. I liked the issue of transgenic food and the radioactive contamination in Japan. Also enjoy a photograph and the last movie view. In certain blogs was more difficult to complete the total number of words, while others cost less, depending on the subject of the blog. Has been very interesting to share ideas and learn the opinion of my classmates on various topics. Commenting on the blogs of classmates can generate a kind of conversation.

I think the blog is a great tool to practice writing English, it allows us to begin to acquire fluency of words. On the other hand, can improve the grammar and connectors, as they generally tend to be harder to write than to speak or read English. Writing in English also helps to remember words and as written, along with learning new words, when we want to translate something you do not know how they say in English.

Overall I think it has helped me improve my English. Perhaps a good exercise would have to use certain words or connectors, thereby improving the use of words can be unknown. A possible disadvantage of blogging is the time you can spend on writing when there are many other tasks to perform. With regard to the advantages improves vocabulary, practice using different verbs and connectors, and improve the writing in general. Finally the best advantage is to receive corrections, to know that we were wrong, because it is where you really learn to read.

Transgenic food

One of the technologies that generated the most controversy is the transgenics, which involves transferring genes from one individual to another, either the same or different species. This technology offers great opportunities for the production of food, but also has potential risks to be taken into account. Potential benefits may be at different levels. One area which is currently generated benefices for the production of hormones used in the treatment of human diseases. So also in the area of health can generate compatible with human xenotransplantation.

In the area of food production has great potential benefits, to produce individuals who produce more, which are resistant to various diseases, and have higher nutritional values. With this technology can solve nutritional problems and food shortages in some regions, as was the case of rice with more vitamins in the East. There are other potential benefits still unknown.

With regard to the problems, one is the possible decrease in genetic diversity within populations. Another potential problem is the monopoly that can be generated with this technology. A third problem is the possible unfair competition between transgenic and non-transgenic. With respect to potential health problems for humans, there is no evidence that this happens, but it cannot be ruled out.

In my opinion, this is a technology that can be helpful, but it is essential to use it with extreme care, making the preliminary studies required before selling a genetically engineered foods. I think the most important thing is that genes are used and how these genes interact with the natural, since it depends on use artificial genes, which have negative effects on animal and human populations. After all, depends on each one well informed about it and make a decision whether or not to consume transgenic foods, so if we have the right to know that we are selling.

Students protest

The student marches have aroused in the young the desire to be heard by the authorities. The mass demonstrations of thousands of young people clearly show that there are certain points in the Chilean education-both at school and university level- which doesn’t leave happy students and teachers. Clearly, this movement has attracted the attention of authorities in various policy sectors. While some have tried to capitalize on the educational issue to increase its popularity, others have tried to be an educational contribution to this conflict. This is how it passed the creation of a commission of inquiry in education by the House of Representatives, even though it was rejected weeks ago.

I think there are several problems within the Chilean education. First there is the issue of quality of education at school level. Clearly, private schools, with a few local schools have good educational quality. However most of the municipal schools have no educational desired quality. The idea of create municipal schools of excellence is good as a first step, but bigger changes are needed in order to deliver quality education in all sectors. I'm not sure that turning schools into state is the solution.

With regard to university education is the problem of lack of funding in traditional universities. In this sense it has generated a progress of the state. The second problem is the cost of education. Here the generating cheaper credit is an advance, but should be a fund that students do not have to pay interest for study. Another problem is the profit with education. In this sense I find that there should be banned private universities, but whether to regulate their existence. If you generate profits, you must pay taxes and not receive public money. Also, to operate all universities should be accredited, regulating the quality and the amounts charged are not excessive. Finally should control the number of universities and quota for each profession, as the supply of professionals increasingly demand more than generating many doesn´t find job.

A Photograph

I like take photographs very much. I like to take photographs as well as see it.  Every time that travel, I take many photographs in each site, testing different angles and modes, and many times my family rush me to continue walking. Then when I comeback of the travel, I see all the photographs and delete the bad. Later I select the best photographs, then print these, and finally put in my album.

I like take photographs of landscapes, to represent all its beauty, trying to take the landscape as a whole, in order to capture the memory in photography. Another kind of photography that I like to take is to small animals and insects, particularly those of unusual shapes and colors. Of this way, I can keep the memory of strange animal in colors.

The picture that I upload is one of my favorites. This picture was taken by mi brother, which lives in Punta Arenas. Show the “horns of Paine”, in the national park “Torres del Paine”. Was taken in the surrounding area of “big jump”, that is the biggest waterfall of the park. This park is very beautiful, and I consider that is one of the best places in Chile to travel. The picture was taken in February of the summer of two thousand and nine.  I like this picture because is placed in a very beautiful place, and was a very good travel with my brother and father. This journey was very special to my father and my, because I don´t know the  park, and my father lives is the region his childhood,   but the last time that visit the park was many years ago.

Antumapu

Antumapu is a very beautiful campus. Is one of the greenest campuses of the University of Chile. The campus includes the faculty of Veterinary, Agronomist, Forester and Natural resources. The Faculty of Veterinary is separated of the other by Farm world. Farm world is a place that receive visit of children, and they can see and learn about different animal, such as farm animal, in example cows, chickens, horses, rabbits, donkeys, sheep, goat and geese.  But others animal exist in Farm world like ostriches and deer. Includes a lagoon surrounded by many crops. Have a casino to eat, and many rustic tables, that make a very comfortable place to lunch, with the nature round you. By this reason, Farm world is one of my preferred places to eat.

The Faculty of Veterinary is very familiar, separated of the other Faculties, with small structure, many individuals that remind cabins, and is very attractive that doesn’t present any structure of two floors.  The advantage is that almost all veterinary students interact, but the disadvantage is that being separated from the other schools produces less contact with students of other faculties.

The side of the campus with Agronomist, Forester and Natural resources has many more interaction between the students. Parties made in Antumapu are good, especially the “Fonda Antumapu” in September, in which dance “Cueca”, and has a very folk atmosphere, that allows return to our traditions.

About the name I don´t know the meaning or the origin of this, sound as a Machupe word, but I am not sure of this.

I can say that Antumapu is a good campus, in contact with nature and a friendly atmosphere, allowing a relaxed area to study. Perhaps should have better infrastructure, but is a great campus to study
