Transgenic food

One of the technologies that generated the most controversy is the transgenics, which involves transferring genes from one individual to another, either the same or different species. This technology offers great opportunities for the production of food, but also has potential risks to be taken into account. Potential benefits may be at different levels. One area which is currently generated benefices for the production of hormones used in the treatment of human diseases. So also in the area of health can generate compatible with human xenotransplantation.

In the area of food production has great potential benefits, to produce individuals who produce more, which are resistant to various diseases, and have higher nutritional values. With this technology can solve nutritional problems and food shortages in some regions, as was the case of rice with more vitamins in the East. There are other potential benefits still unknown.

With regard to the problems, one is the possible decrease in genetic diversity within populations. Another potential problem is the monopoly that can be generated with this technology. A third problem is the possible unfair competition between transgenic and non-transgenic. With respect to potential health problems for humans, there is no evidence that this happens, but it cannot be ruled out.

In my opinion, this is a technology that can be helpful, but it is essential to use it with extreme care, making the preliminary studies required before selling a genetically engineered foods. I think the most important thing is that genes are used and how these genes interact with the natural, since it depends on use artificial genes, which have negative effects on animal and human populations. After all, depends on each one well informed about it and make a decision whether or not to consume transgenic foods, so if we have the right to know that we are selling.
